Biology at the Technion
Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Biology. Today, biology is at the epicenter of scientific interest. With enormous, far-reaching importance, biology provides the scientific basis for some of today’s most vital areas, namely biotechnology, medicine, biomedical engineering, nanotechnology and bioinformatics. The Human Genome Project and the revolution in genetic engineering have thrust biology to the forefront of modern science.
The great significance of biology has made it a central element in universities throughout the world, including institutions that are technical in nature. In this respect, the Technion is uniquely positioned, as it combines basic research in the biological and medical sciences with engineering. With a finger on the pulse of different disciplines, our Faculty at Technion constantly tailors its programs and courses to face the challenges of modern biology.
The Technion Faculty of Biology was established in 1971 with three objectives: to undertake high level research, produce a new generation of scientists and provide top notch biology instruction on campus. The Faculty places great emphasis on a diversity of fields, all situated at the forefront of the life sciences today.
Looking ahead, the Faculty is recruiting excellent faculty members in areas of modern biology. With an unshakeable commitment to the next generation, the Faculty is continually improving the levels of undergraduate and graduate teaching.
