Why pursue a postdoc?

  • Ability to work in the best labs at the field of your interest
  • Become an expert in the field
  • learn new state-of-the-art technologies.
  • Experience working in rich academic environments, personal meetings, seminars etc.…
  • Networking, get to know and expose yourself and your research to the world experts in your field
  • Expand your potential job opportunities in academia abroad and in Israel.

Why not?

A postdoc isn’t for everyone, and it’s important to be certain that it’s definitely what you want to do before committing yourself to 2 to 5 years of further research.
It may feel like the obvious next step for your career progression, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right move for you and your current situation.

Possible down sides and things we tend to worry about when thinking of a postdoc:

  • More years of financial instability
  • Hard work
  • Overqualifications
  • Moving with spouse and family (finding work for your spouse, school and activities for kids …)
  • Adjustment difficulties, such as new language, loosing and finding new friends
