Research Summary

Our laboratory is interested in discovering the functional roles of proteases in different cellular processes and disease conditions. Our research combines biochemistry, cellular, and molecular biology with proteomics. We are developing various mass-spectrometry-based proteomic methods to monitor proteases and their activity in complex biological samples including cells, tissues, and whole organisms.

We are applying these tools to:

  • Investigations of the peroxisomal Lon protease homolog 2 (LonP2) and its role in maintaining the peroxisome homeostasis under stress conditions
  • Identification of novel substrates of proteases from the caspase and calpain families
  • Study the human and microbiome proteases in Inflammatory bowel diseases
