Research Summary

Throughout my scientific career I have been interested in the molecular biology of nucleic acids.

As a Ph.D. student and a postdoctoral fellow I studied fundamental aspects of RNA and DNA metabolism in the bacterium E. coli.

As a research associate at the Weizmann Institute, I began my research on the molecular biology of DNA tumor viruses. Together with my students, I continued these studies at the Technion. Later, this research led to our studies of DNA triplexes and quadruplexes, in which field we made several significant discoveries.

In the final phase of my scientific career at the Technion, my students and I studied the enzyme telomerase. This enzyme catalyzes the synthesis of telomeres, which contain DNA repeats that form triplexes and quadruplexes. In parallel, we discovered and studied a protein (named translin by others who discovered it independently) that selectively binds such repeats.

The various phases of our research are described in our scientific articles, of which a list of selected publications is provided herewith.
