We are extremely happy to announce that Prof. Debbie Lindell won the 2022 “Morton and Beverley Rechler” Prize for Excellence in Research.
Research in the Lindell lab focuses on understanding host-virus interactions and how they impact the population dynamics, diversity, and genome evolution of host cells and the viruses that infect them. The Lindell lab focuses on the marine cyanobacteria, Synechococcus, and Prochlorococcus, abundant primary producers of global importance, and the viruses that infect them.
Some of the key questions currently being addressed are: How abundant are viruses that infect cyanobacteria in different oceans? How much cyanobacterial mortality do these viruses cause each day? What defenses do the cyanobacteria use against viruses? What are the functions of virus genes during infection? The Lindell lab combines oceanographic fieldwork, physiological experimentation, and molecular biology to address these questions.
Congratulations to Debbie for receiving this highly prestigious award 😊.
