Significant Achievement: 2 Technion Faculty of Biology Researchers Join Prestigious EMBO Organization!

10 July 2024

We are delighted to announce that Professors Benny Podbilewicz and Prof. Oded Beja have been elected to the prestigious EMBO membership. This honor recognizes their outstanding contributions in their respective fields of research.

Benny became an EMBO member for his discovery of proteins and mechanisms that mediate cell-cell fusion in eukaryotes.

Oded was elected for using metagenomics to find novel rhodopsin families in the oceans.

Our two colleagues from the Faculty of Biology join three EMBO members at the Technion: Aaron Ciechanover, Avram Hershko, and Roy Kishony.

Being elected to the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) is one of the highest honours bestowed in Europe for excellence in life sciences.

EMBO membership is awarded to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the field of life sciences. It is a testament to the high quality and impact of their research, placing them in a selected group of scientists. This membership provides access to funding opportunities, conferences, and workshops that can further advance their research and professional development and allows for collaboration and networking. As such, members are expected to take on leadership roles within the scientific community, contributing to the direction and future of life sciences research and policy.

Please join us in congratulating Benny and Oded on this remarkable achievement.

Prof. Michael Glickman, Dean.
